Akron, Ohio – Segmint Inc., a Northeast Ohio technology company that helps financial institutions build personal digital relationships with their customers, has partnered with the University of Akron to support practical application of advanced theoretical Data Mining technology. Segmint is sponsoring a research assistantship that will allow a University of Akron graduate student to apply the theoretical and academic aspects of data mining to real-world problems in a commercial setting. Dr. C.C. Chan, Chairman of the Department of Computer Science at the University of Akron states, “data mining is a process of knowledge discovery where data is analyzed from different perspectives and summarized into useful information. This information can be used to help solve business problems, increase revenues or cut costs. It is very powerful stuff in business.”
